week4-Wikipedia Editing and Translating Book Titles-xiongchaoli웅초려
This week, I spent more time observing how different editors interact with each other on Wikipedia. Before, I mainly focused on making edits myself, but this week I started checking revision histories and discussion pages more carefully. It was interesting to see that Wikipedia articles are not created by one person but are constantly changed and negotiated by many editors.
One thing I learned is that even when editors agree on the general topic, they may still disagree about sources, wording, or what information should be included. Sometimes one editor adds content while another editor removes or changes it later. At first, I thought this meant people were “fighting” over the page, but now I think it is also part of how Wikipedia tries to improve article quality.
I also realized that communication between editors is very important. Good editing is not only about writing information but also about explaining edits clearly and respecting other contributors. This makes Wikipedia feel less like a normal website and more like a collaborative community project.
One question I still have is how Wikipedia balances openness and quality control. Since anyone can edit, I wonder how the platform prevents misinformation while still encouraging public participation.
