W1.1 3.2 Editing on Wikipedia
During this week, I carried out several edits on Wikipedia under the account guoying1. My main focus was improving article reliability by adding citations to statements that previously lacked proper sourcing. For example, I included references from gaming media outlets to support descriptions of character influence in the Resident Evil series, and I also added official sources to strengthen the section introducing features of the Origin platform. These contributions can be viewed in my Wikipedia edit history under user contributions for guoying1.
While working on these articles, I also gained new understanding of topics I had not paid close attention to before. For instance, I learned more about how digital gaming platforms such as Origin function—after purchasing a game, users no longer rely on physical discs but can download and access the game directly through their accounts. This illustrates a broader shift in the gaming industry from physical distribution toward digital delivery. In addition, I came to better appreciate how significant the influence of game characters can be within gaming culture and media.
I also have some questions for further discussion. Although there is a large amount of information about video games available online, not all websites are considered suitable as citation sources on Wikipedia. I would like to better understand Wikipedia’s standards for “reliable sources” and how experienced editors evaluate and maintain the quality and credibility of articles over time.
