Understanding Wikipedia: Reliability and Verifiability

Reliability and verifiability are two of the most important principles on Wikipedia. I learned that Wikipedia requires information to be supported by reliable sources such as academic books, journal articles, and trusted news organizations. Editors are expected to provide references so that readers can check whether the information is accurate. One interesting point is that Wikipedia focuses more on whether information can be verified than on whether someone personally believes it is true. This creates a system where evidence is more important than personal opinion.

I also discovered that articles with weak or missing references are often marked with warning notices. This helps readers recognize possible problems with the content. Another thing I found unusual is that Wikipedia keeps detailed edit histories, allowing users to see how articles have changed over time and who contributed to them.

However, I still think reliability can sometimes be difficult to guarantee because anyone can edit articles quickly. Incorrect information may appear before other editors correct it. This raises an important discussion about how online platforms can balance openness, speed, and accuracy in the digital age.

WEEK2— WANG SIWEN

During this week, I made 15 edits on Wikipedia and also created a new personal sandbox. Most of my edits focused on adding new content and translating information between different language versions of articles. Through this process, I tried to make the content clearer and more accessible to readers from different language backgrounds. In addition, I created a new sandbox to practice editing and organize my ideas before publishing them on the main article pages. The sandbox allowed me to test formatting and translation structures more carefully, which helped me avoid mistakes in public articles. WEEK2 ——edits on Wikipedia

During this week, I made several edits on Wikipedia. My main work was adding citations to some sentences that lacked sources in order to improve the reliability of the article content. For example, I added citations from gaming media websites for descriptions of the influence of characters in the Resident Evil series, and also supplemented official sources for the feature introduction of the Origin platform.
