Week2-WANGYIZHE
This week’s videos focused on some basic but important features of Wikipedia, including the sandbox, talk pages, and the reasons why Wikipedia works as a collaborative knowledge platform. The sandbox is a personal testing space where users can practice editing without affecting real articles. It allows new editors to try formatting, links, and other editing tools before making actual contributions. The videos also explained how talk pages work. Talk pages are used for communication between editors. Instead of editing articles silently, contributors can discuss changes, ask questions, and explain their edits through these pages.
One interesting point for me was the idea of the sandbox as a learning space. It shows that Wikipedia expects people to learn by doing rather than just reading instructions. This makes the editing process less intimidating for beginners. Another interesting aspect was the communication culture on talk pages. Unlike many online platforms where discussions can become chaotic, Wikipedia encourages editors to explain their reasoning and provide reliable sources when they disagree with others.
One question I have is about how Wikipedia handles conflicts between editors. Since anyone can edit, disagreements must happen frequently. I wonder how the community decides whose edits should stay and how consensus is reached when editors have different opinions.
